Michael Che appeared on The Breakfast Club to speak about working on the show.
Last week, NBC and Saturday Night Live drew criticism after it was announced that Tesla CEO Elon Musk would be hosting the May 8th episode of the show. The decision was decried for many reasons, ranging from Musk’s downplaying the COVID-19 pandemic to his role in suppressing union organizers within his company. On a recent episode of The Breakfast Club, SNL head co-writer Michael Che said he was in favor of Musk hosting the show. Watch the full interview below.
“I don’t know, I think white people just don’t like their billionaires, for some reason,” Che explained two minutes into the interview. “It’s weird because we love our billionaires. If Oprah or Tyler Perry was coming, we’d be all excited about it. But for whatever reason, I don’t know, I think it’s a little embarrassing when they realize how much wealth they actually have. But I, you know, it’s the richest man in the world. Of course I wanna meet him.”
Che pointed out that Musk has appeared on other shows, not just SNL. “I think it’s a good thing,” he continued. “I think it means people still care about the show in some way, at least, because they wouldn’t know if they didn’t care.”
“He’s the richest man in the world,” Che said on Late Night with Seth Meyers. “How could you not be excited for that?”
